Skåne is unique in Sweden with three national tourist cycle routes. Try cycling one of these Kattegattle trails, which became "Cycle Trail of the Year in Europe 2018". Here you will experience real pleasure cycling, along the way there are many nice cafes and restaurants and if you want to swim, you just turn down to the nearest sandy beach. Kattegattleden, stretches 390 km and runs all the way through the Halland region and connects the city of Helsingborg in the south and the city of Gothenburg in the north. Itinerary
Travelshop Helsingborg
Start by picking up your bikes at the Travelshop at Helsingborg central station at bus gate 6. Here you can also pick up maps and bike accessories that are part of your bike trip. When you have received your bikes, make your own sightseeing tour and start discovering everything that Helsingborg has to offer at your own pace. Helsingborg is one of the oldest cities in the Nordics, and it shows both in the city and the position of the place. Öresund is the narrowest passage here to Denmark and it is no coincidence that the city has a strategic position, which can be dated back to the Viking Age.
In Helsingborg, you stay at hotel Clarion Sea U, which has a perfect location in the heart of the city, or alternatively at hotel Mollberg.
Tips for attractions! Helsingborg's symbol and landmark is called Kärnan, this tower is located in the city center and is today one of the last remaining pieces of the city's medieval castle. It was built by the Danes in the 14th century and for a long period there was a continuous stormy war between the two countries. When Sweden finally won in 1679, the castle was demolished and all that was left was the tower, which has been restored today. If you want a challenge, go up all 323 steps and get a fantastic view of the city and across the strait to Elsinore.
Tips for attractions! About 5 km north of Helsingborg you will find Sofiero Castle, a former royal summer residence surrounded by a magnificent park with wonderful blooming rhododendrons. The garden has won prestigious awards and is an oasis with over 10,000 plants and 300 different varieties of the rhododendron with its spectacular flowers. In the castle there are exhibitions both indoors and outdoors, events such as the big garden festival and music events.
Helsingborg - Ängelholm
After your stay in Helsingborg, the journey continues to Ängelholm, where you will also cycle past Höganäs. Ängelholm is located by the fantastic Skälderviken with its small fishing villages interspersed with calm sea bathing. Here the beaches replace each other and everyone can find their favorite. Ängelholms Havsbad in Skäldervikens famn is a 6km long swimming beach with a unique sand dune landscape. You will have a guaranteed unforgettable experience on the Rönne river. Here there are activities that suit everyone, for example, you can paddle a canoe along the river that flows through Ängelholm and empties into Skälderviken. For those interested in fishing, you can fish for salmon in Rönne, but also perch, roach, pike and trout nibble. Ängelholm is also known for its clay cuckoos, so why not buy one of the small wind instruments as a souvenir to take home with you.

Tips for attractions! In the middle of the city, you will find the popular Hembygdsparken, suitable for all ages, a zoo with Nordic animals, a large playground, an inn, an ice cream and waffle parlor, as well as five different museums: the Technical Museum, the School Museum, the Leather and Local History Museum, the Luntertunstugan and the Grönvallska The farm. In addition to museums, Upzone also has an adventure climbing course with different courses of up to 15 meters up among the treetops.
Tips for attractions! If you are interested in history, there are plenty of museums to visit, two popular highlights worth visiting are: The Railway Museum where you can follow the development of the railway on a large model railway. Ängelholm Aviation Museum where you can view aircraft, engines, flight equipment, a radar center in a "rock room environment" and try to control a plane in a simulator.
Ängelholm - Halmstad
The bike ride then continues to Halmstad via Båstad, don't forget to put on the brakes and stop at Norrvikens Trädgårdar. Norrviken is a famous destination for its gardens in different styles. As early as 1922, there were 200 different kinds of fruit trees and a total of around 5,000 trees. After about 2 hours of cycling, you arrive in Halmstad, also best known as one of Sweden's best summer towns. Halmstad, like many other small towns in Sweden, has an exciting history. Strolling along Vallgatan is like walking in Halmstad 500 years ago with cobbled streets and cozy houses, climbing roses and colorful doors. The Kattegat trail passes through central Halmstad and crosses the Nissan canal right next to Halmstad castle. In Halmstad, you can easily get around by bicycle and the municipality offers bicycle pumps where you can quickly and easily fill the tires with air.

Tips for attractions! Halmstad castle is beautifully situated by the Nissan canal, barely two kilometers from the sea. During the beginning of the 17th century, when Halmstad Castle was built, Halland still belonged to Denmark. King Kristian, who ruled over the Danish kingdom, was a great builder and had several cities, castles and fortifications built - including Halmstad Castle. There are guided tours inside the castle and the castle grounds are often used during the summer for outdoor theatre, music and also food markets.
Tips for attractions! Go back in time and experience old times at the Open Air Museum Hallandsgården. This open-air museum offers fun activities for everyone and is a great destination for those who want to experience history up close. Take the chance to visit Hörsåsstugan, Eldsberga schoolhouse or the stables and discover how people lived here in the past, either on your own or with the help of one of Hallandsgården's knowledgeable guides.
Halmstad - Falkenberg
Falkenberg is located on the west coast of Halland, right at the outlet of the Ätran in the Kattegatt. It is a town dating back to the 13th century and was the local center of power during the years when all of Halland was Danish. In the central parts you will find the so-called "Old Town", which mostly consists of wooden buildings. There is a lot of charm in this part of Falkenberg. For those who like outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing, Falkenberg has a large selection that offers lovely nature around Ätran. Falkenberg is also distinguished by the beautiful and famous beach - Skrea Strand. It is a popular beach located just under a kilometer from the center of Falkenberg.
Tips for attractions! Close to the center is Vallarna. It is a large forest park that covers a large part of Falkenberg's city. The park was created in 1916, and in the park you can look at animals in the small zoo. In the park, of course, there is also Vallarna's open-air theatre, which has existed since the 19th century. The stage includes the popular buskis performances, sing-alongs at Vallarna and some other events that often attract thousands of people every year.
Tips for attractions! If you want to experience art, design and cultural history, you should take the opportunity to visit the Rian design museum. Here, modern design meets interesting design history, and in the museum's café you also have a perfect view of the rushing Ätran. Several exhibitions are organized here per year and guided tours, lectures and dramatized city walks are on the programme.

Falkenberg - Varberg
Varberg is a real coastal pearl and has a charming and lively centre. Already in the 19th century, the city was characterized as a famous health resort where people visited to drink from the well, and the water still has a central position today. In Varberg there are lots of activities characterized by water, from spa hotels, refreshing nude baths or why not surfing. Take the bike to Varberg's center and experience the city's lively market days or take a day trip to Åkulla's beautiful nature with beech forest.
Tips for attractions! The Kallbadhuset in Varberg offers beautiful views, sun, sauna and nude bathing for both men, women and children. Here you can enjoy an energizing, cooling dip in the sea all year round and then relax in a warm and comfortable sauna with a view of the Kattegat.
Tips for attractions! Varberg Fortress is a castle and a landmark for the city and is one of the most visited attractions. The castle dates back to the 13th century and here you can learn more about Varberg's history with both Danish and Swedish kings. You can take a guided tour inside the fortress, and you can also visit Halland's Museum of Cultural History, which is located in Varberg's fortress.

Varberg - Kungsbacka
Kungsbacka was already founded at the beginning of the 16th century and was Danish until 1645. The old wooden houses characterize the city center and offer a picturesque atmosphere with cafes, restaurants and shops. A tip for a cozy café where you can eat waffles and enjoy home-baked goods in the garden is the red cottage Kungsbacka's oldest house. The house is located a stone's throw from Kattegattleden on the northern square, which is full of outdoor seating during the summer. Kungsbacka is one of West Sweden's largest trading places. The genuine and traditional still lives on, side by side with the new modern shopping centres.
Tips on Attractions! Make a detour to Tjolöholm Castle. Sweden's only Tudor-style castle from the turn of the century that is exceptionally beautiful by the sea. During the summer there are guided tours several times a day. There is also a swimming area, a working-class village with workers' housing, activities for children and dining. The castle garden is always open to the public.
Tips on Attractions! Tölöberg, Kungsbacka's oldest and first water tower from 1897, is a fantastic vantage point in central Kungsbacka. Walk the 179 steps and you basically see the whole of Kungsbacka.

Kungsbacka - Gothenburg
The last stop on the Kattegatt trail is Gothenburg, which ends at Drottningtorget by the central station. Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city and was founded in 1621 by Gustaf II Adolf. The town center is cozy and compact surrounded by a zigzag moat and running through the center. If you like fish and shellfish, you've come to the right place. Gothenburg has a rich selection of restaurants and cafés, with Saluhallen and Feskekörka as two of the city's most beloved landmarks. The location by the sea not only affects the food offer, the proximity to the archipelago also opens up many excursions. In Gothenburg there is something for everyone, a bustling shopping life, a large cultural offer, museums, opera, theater and music.
Tips on Attractions! The Volvo Museum is located at Hisingen in Gothenburg, and pure Swedish history is displayed here. As a visitor, you can follow along throughout Volvo's development in chronological order, from the first meeting before Volvo was started to today's high-tech passenger cars and trucks. There is also a large collection of vehicles and innovations that Volvo has developed and produced over the years.
Tips on Attractions! A pleasant destination that suits everyone regardless of age is the Universeum. Universeum is a large science center as a visitor there is a lot of impressions and knowledge to learn and take part of. Here you can wander around in a rainforest environment, see large and exotic sea animals in giant aquariums, carry out various experiments, learn more about the Swedish wilderness and much more.

Tips for attractions! Röda Sten art gallery is located in the fine old boiler house at the harbor entrance. It is an exciting arena for contemporary art in all its forms. There are always exhibitions here together with a maximum program of screenings and workshops. The building also has the White Guide-mentioned restaurant where you can have a coffee or a bite to eat.
